Arizona Divorce Chart
This handy dandy chart, courtesy of the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Community Legal Services, shows the process for a divorce and legal separation in the Maricopa County Family Court. In a nutshell, there are three or so “tracks” for your case. Every case is started with a Petition for Dissolution. After that, you may end up divorced by “default”, “consent” or through traditional litigation. Through the “consent” or litigation process you may attend a mediation or other form of ADR. Typically the process takes between 9-12 months, although it can be as short as 60 days and as long as two years!
