Maleah Woodward

Attorney

Maleah Woodward is more than an attorney, she’s a superhero. Maleah is a single mother to two beautiful adopted children, one of whom has special needs. She is also a licensed marriage and family therapist and an exceptional advocate for her clients. Yes, Maleah put herself through law school, as a adult, with a full time job, while also being a single mother in the truest sense of the word. Somehow, she makes it look easy. She has a constant smile on her face and is a complete joy to be around. Perhaps it’s her life experience or her training as a therapist but somehow Maleah consistently exceeds her client’s expectations.

What it's like to work with Maleah

While many attorneys claim to understand narcissists, Maleah’s background makes her actually capable of not only understanding the narcissist but how to handle and manage the narcissist to get beyond the power struggle and get to results.

One recent client wrote that Maleah and her team bent over backward to fight for her, was mindful and efficient with the client’s budget and took special care with her domestic violence case to keep her safe. Other clients raved about the speed and thoroughness of communication throughout the case as well as Maleah’s kindness and compassion. Maleah’s professional background included working as a therapist for children who had committed sexual offense. As a therapist she was spending time in the homes of the families and children she was working with. Maleah had ongoing involvement with all members of the family, yet when she went to court, the judge listened to the lawyers who had spent far less time with the family. Many people who have navigated family law probably feel the same way- discounted and minimized for simply not being an attorney. But Maleah being who she is, didn’t get angry she went to law school.

She now takes great joy in giving her clients a voice and making sure her clients are well represented and listened to. She also worked extensively in cases involving sexual abuse, sometimes between siblings or step-siblings. This is unfortunately very common and nuanced. Many judges and court appointed advisors do not know how to adequately address the allegations and come up with appropriate safety plans. Here, Maleah shines.

If you weren't in the legal profession, what would your alternative career be?

I would be a therapist

Which fictional lawyer or legal character do you resonate with the most? Why?

I know she isn't an attorney but Erin Brokovich because I like the outside the box way she approached things and got the information she needed.

If you could have a legal-themed superpower, what would it be and why?

I'd like to retain legal research at lightening speed!

If you could create a new law, what would it be and why?

I would create a law that does not require juveniles who have committed a sex offense to register on the sex offender registry because it hurts them so much developmentally especially when they get treatment and the recidivism rate is significantly low.
