Kristin Moye

Estate Planning and Probate Attorney.

Warm • Practical • Approachable

Kristin Moye helps individuals and families build estate plans that are practical, easy to understand, and shaped around what matters most to them. Estate planning is her favorite area of practice, and she brings the same care to a simple plan as she does to complex matters involving unique family or asset situations.

Kristin sees a natural link between estate planning, probate and family law. Marriage, divorce, children, remarriage, and blended families all reshape a household, and each change is a signal to revisit the plan that protects it. At Modern Law, she brings estate planning and probate into a practice already guiding clients through some of the biggest transitions of their lives.

Her legal foundation is broad. Kristin served as a mediator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Los Angeles Superior Court, worked with the Scottsdale City Attorney’s Office, and supported attorneys at Snell & Wilmer while attending law school part time. As Articles Editor on Law Review, she published an article that has been cited by five other published law review articles. Her experience also spans probate and trust administration, business law and entity formation, general transactional work, and years of teaching legal ethics and law practice management. Outside the office, she volunteers with the Military Order of the World Wars and the Arizona Youth Leadership Conference, and has served as an ombudsman helping deployed service members resolve issues with their civilian employers.

Fun Fact

Kristin is a very early riser and a regular at her local Starbucks, where her Labradoodle, Brody, is the star of the drive-thru thanks to his beard. Some mornings she finds him in the guest bedroom, tucked under the covers like a person. She also loves traveling with her family and recently explored Ireland with her husband, teenage daughter, and mother-in-law.

What it's like to work with Kristin

Working with Kristin feels like talking with a friend who happens to know estate law inside and out. She knows estate planning and probate feel overwhelming for many people, so she creates a space where every question is welcome, including the ones clients assume they should already know.

Kristin talks to clients like people, in clear, everyday language. She listens closely, explains each decision, and makes sure clients leave confident about the plan they’re putting in place.

She also plans ahead for the family conflicts nobody sees coming. Kristin has watched plenty of families say “that will never happen to us” and then face it anyway. She builds plans that address those issues early, so families stay protected and at peace.

Getting to Know Kristin

If you weren't in the legal profession, what would your alternative career be?

Probably a yoga teacher on a beach somewhere.

Which fictional lawyer or legal character do you resonate with the most? Why?

A mix of Elle Woods and Erin Brockovich. Elle Woods is warm, friendly, and approachable, and also smart and capable. Erin Brockovich helped regular people through the legal system and connected with them by talking to them like a person instead of a lawyer. Both show you can be great at what you do and still be welcoming and down to earth.

If you could create a new law, what would it be and why?

I’d require every important legal document to come with a plain-English explanation of what it actually means. Nobody should need a law degree to understand documents that have a major impact on their lives.

If you could have a legal-themed superpower, what would it be and why?

The ability to see future family drama so we could plan for it and solve the problem before it ever happens. That would be a pretty great superpower for an estate planning attorney. People say, “Oh, that will never happen in my family,” and sure enough, it does. People argue over all kinds of things.
